One for the Boys!

Today, we visited the Open Day for the British Columbia Institute of Technology Areospace Technology Campus.

This massive building has been constructed in two years. On our visit here in September 2005 we were intrigued by the earth work going on in preparation for this building. Then, there was no indication of what was to be built.

This an impressive $77 million, 40,000 square-foot, glass enclosed building. It took 377,662 construction hours, Employed 2,300 workers. Has 1,700 glass panels and used 11,000 cubic meters of concrete in its construction. The size space and light in the building is really impressive.
It has 40 class rooms and 'smart' labs, Seminar rooms featuring global teleconferencing, research and resource library. Its Graduate's specialise in maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft and helicopters

There were so many people arriving to visit the facility. It opened 12 pm to 4pm and there was a lineup to enter before 12. I think the people organising the event were surprised by the numbers that turned up. Spacious corridors with polished concrete floors and walls and natural light from the glass roof panels

There was entertainment from performers from Cirque Phoenix. their act was on silk streamers hanging from the roof of the largest hanger. A 'female' clown called Koirky was kept busy making balloon planes and animals for the children.

Leaving the facility at just before 3pm and walking to the Airport bus stop people were still turning up to visit.
We catch a bus to Richmond center and go to White Spot for a cup of tea and a dessert. OH help my waist band is suffering!!! Dave wanders around while I try on and buy some clothes in Cotton Ginny.
Today has been beautiful again , sunny with some light high cloud. The sun made it feel warm but the breeze was definitely chilly.
Dave certainly enjoyed himself today, pottering around the Aero Space facility on his own.
