Non Whale Watching!

We have been on a whale watching trip today. Along the coastline towards the States and through the islands It's been a beautiful clear sunny day but quite cold and crisp. I'm glad we dressed warmly as the wind was very cold and from the north. We see several bald eagles and many cormorants along the sea wall on leaving Steveston.

The boat is a jet boat so can travel fast when necessary. It's also unsinkable! Thankfully. The sun catches the water drops thrown up in the spray from the boats wash and makes them sparkle like diamonds. The spray from the boat is a sight on it's own and quite mesmerising. The sea's quite calm this morning and the journey was not too bumpy.
We see eagles, cormorants, seals, dolphins in the distance, sea otters and a whole colony of large, noisy basking sea lions but not a sniff of a whale today. The sea lions helped to make up for not seeing them as we managed to get quite close. It's difficult to get a good photo though with the boat bobbing about and the sun in the wrong direction.There was a whole shoal of Humpback seen last week and whales were seen yesterday but today they decided not to show. Never mind we have a certificate to go again for free whenever we come back. Apparently the best time is July and August when the salmon are returning to the Fraser.
