White Rock & Crescent beach

Dave is returning to the UK this week so Nancylee wants to know where he would like to go on Monday. After some thought he said White Rock and Crescent beach. Good choice, a lovely place and the day is sunny. A sea mist comes and goes but we have a lovely lunch in one of the sea front restaurant called Charlies. A really quaint place full of character and photos of old movie stars. We sit outside and the sun on my back is quite warm. We're protected from the cool wind in this spot.

White Rock is on the southwest corner of British Columbia,south of Vancouver and very close to the US boarder. This small seaside community has a population of over 18,000. Clustered around an eight kilometre sandy beach and the 1,500 ft. long pier Surrounded by the warm shallow waters of Semiahmoo Bay. The area boasts a warm, dry climate with more hours of sunshine than Vancouver. White Rock takes its name from the enormous white granite rock washed up on the beach.

The White Rock
Sitting on the beach east of the pier, the legend is that this large, 486-ton, white rock tells of a romantic story between the son of a sea god and a Cowichan Indian Princess. One day, the Princess, who was the daughter of the tribal chief, was bathing. The handsome son of the sea god left his cavern and saw the Princess with whom he fell instantly in love. The young sea god then brought the girl to his father in order to receive a blessing for their union, but it was denied. The sea god's son and the Princess proceeded to the tribe, only to be refused by the Cowichan chief. Finally the young sea god said "We will make a new home for ourselves and begin our own tribe." He hurled a huge rock across the water to guide them to a place to start their lives. The result was a mighty tribe which was peace - loving and strong. They were called the Semiahmoo, which is the Indian word meaning half moon. To this day, the large, white rock remains on the White Rock Beach. Credit: The Atlas of Canadian Communities.;

After lunch we drive to Crescent Beach. It's located in South Surrey, not far from White Rock. It's a great place for playing on the beach, swimming, kite flying, and looking for clams and crabs. There's a path that runs parallel to the beach in front of all the grand and a few quaint beach-front cottages.

Its a great place for beach combing!

Post Script := Found these jeans while walking along the front at White Rock. Don't you wish your arse was this skinny. OK maybe not! But shes getting everywhere these days. The crown, a bit pretentious though, or is it to do with their grand "pad' nicknamed 'Beckingham Palace'?
