Longsdale Quay

Tuesday November 22nd
This morning dawns dull and drizzly. We head towards Vancouver Downtown, through Stanley Park and over the Lions Gate Bridge and turn to North Vancouver across the Burrard Inlet.
As we go through Stanley Park I can see the massive roots of some of the magnificent old pine trees devastated by last Decembers gale.
In North Vancouver we drive through the Capilano area to Longsdale Quay. Longsdale is situated along the waterside of the Burrard Inlet next to the Water Bus terminal quay from Downtown Vancouver. Last time Dave and I was here was in 1986 we we came on our own, across the city by bus then over the Inlet by the water bus. The Quay is a colourful vibrant busselling area. It's changed over the years but the character still remains.

The weathers improved a little and the sun makes an appearance. Hanging low in the sky it glares and sparkles across the water as the bus hops back and forth.

At lunch time we decide the smell of food coming from the Cheshire Cheese Inn is worth investigating. It's set out as an English style pub with some English Pub Grub dishes on the Menu. Nancy decides on Toad in the Hole and Nancylee a Shepards Pie. I have a club sandwich.

The lower floor of the market has open market style in the center. Shops crammed with all manner of fresh produce, meats, fish, sweets, cookies and cakes, vegetables, fruits, flowers.Along the Water bus terminal side is the food court with all manner if foods being sold and the seating area inside and out side along the wooden decking. Down the other side there are shops selling tourist gifts and other goods. Up on the upper floor the shops are more conventional but are interesting and we spend some time just browsing around.

Back in Richmond we drive to Nancylee's home to pick up Annie, Johns Mother. She has flown in from Calgary this afternoon to be here for John's Graduation tomorrow. We drive the short hop to Steveston to Diplomat a well known cake and teashop in Steveston that has just moved premises. We're having tea and cakes, a light snack before dinner. Diplomat has been taken by surprised by the increased business their move has brought. They hadn't expected it as they are now further from the center if the village than they were.
Back home I spruce up and change for dinner. We're going to Kiran's at Richmond Center to celebrate Ralphs birthday. Ralph, John's father has just returned from a week in Mexico and looks relaxed and tanned. The meal is excellent, Peking Duck followed by lobster and continued with further delicious dished. Thoroughly stuffed we stagger across the road to the brightly light shop selling all the flavours of gelato you can think of and we sit giggling and tasting each others choices.
