The island certainly looks different today from the last time we were here just before Christmas when it was covered with snow and sunny. Today's damp and grey, the snows almost disappeared now, just a few small piles left here.
Our main reason for coming today was to look around Opus, the art warehouse. They have some new acrylic paints called Golden Acrylics. They do not dry out as quickly and can be worked and blended like oil paints. I managed to resist buying some though. There's quite a few items I would have liked to buy but mindful of my luggage weight restrictions, decide not to.
These hugh strawberries look as if they're on steroids! It's a Sunday and all the fruit and veg are just as fresh as any weekday.
The strange spiky fruits are called Dragon Fruits. No one seems to know what they taste like though!
I think you could get anything from these markets, even a kitchen sink!!! There's certainly plenty of salmon to choose from!
These tiny colourful sheds are a student project and are intended to be an answer to Vancouver's homeless population. My first reaction was 'No way' but looking closer at them and reading the information to go with these demo huts I think they would be a really great innovation. They're cheap to build, have unique storage and a bed built in. The idea is to place them on municipal land near to where there is a homeless population. Placed in groups of 12 with one unit with a single kitchen and bathroom facilities they would help get the homeless off the streets.
They're sparse and tiny but maybe that's all some of these unfortunate people need . Vancouver was desperate to get them in shelters during the freezing snowy weather. Many actually refused shelters and there were a few fatalities amongst them. The City authorities are anxious to get as many off the streets before the 2010 Olympics. Many of the homeless are the results of Psychiatric facilities being closed.
Leaving Granville the fog is thickening slightly. There's still allot of snow lying in Vancouver Some of the roads in the better off areas where the houses are large and posh are surprisingly messy with uncleared snow. A few of the roads are still reduced to a single route through. In more open areas where the snow still lays water vapour rises from the snow contributing to the fog. It's an unusual sight. Vancouver couldnt have had as much rain as Richmond as there's still so much snow left. Richmond had more snow but it's going quicker.
We decide to stop for tea at the Secret Garden Tearoom. Nancylee described it as a more contemporary 'Old Lady' teashop! Cheek. There is a vast selection of teas to choose from. Nancylee has a 'Buckingham Palace' blend. I choose Darjeeling and Nancy has a cream Earl Grey. We also choose a selection of tasty dainty cakes.
