The Beginning of the End of Snowmageddon!

The Metro Vancouver snowmageddon is coming to an end at last. Torrential rain arrived overnight to help dissolve the snow but I'm sure it'll take another week at least to get rid of the mountains of snow lying about.

This morning we went to the United States to Point Roberts. This five square miles peninsula of land jutting into the Pacific Ocean that can only be reached from the sea or by travelling through Canada. It was created by the division of Canada and the USA at the 49th parallel in the 19 century. Apparently no one could agree or see the sense of the land belonging to Canada so this anomaly continues. Point Roberts enjoys a micro climate and has a milder and sunnier climate that it's neighbours. There is in fact no snow in Point Roberts at all. Green grass is a welcome sight after weeks of snow.

The Canadians use the Point as a postal drop off point for goods i.e. electronics, that US companies cannot legally ship into Canada. We needed to pick up some Headphones from Amazon US.
The US Boarder is just through the town of Tsawwassen The agricultural fields around the town have little snow left and many are flooded.

At the Boarder Post we were unsure whether I as a Brit would be allowed in but the formalities for entry were relative easy. Two index finger prints a signature and $6 and so now I am permitted entry for the next 82 days. Whoopedo!

We decided as we were there we may as well have a drive around. The torrential rain had abated by the time we reached the Marina but the wind from the ocean was bitter cold. Certainly didn't fancy a paddle today. Nancylee did a little beach combing as usual! This beach is littered with hugh drift wood logs, beached seaweed, shells and the most amazing collecting of pebbles from so many different types of rock. Pretty it ain't! Bracing, yes.

We cross back to Canada and stop at White Spot in Tsawwassen for lunch before a quick trip to Michael's and Costco.

Home first to Whistler Court then on to Francis Road to take down the Christmas decorations. They are all carefully wrapped and put into storage again until December. The denuded Christmas tree's bundled in to its ghostly bag to prevent needles being shed all over until it's disposed of at the recycling point.
