Dead Girls, Number 7

We had another trip to the airport today to collect Ralph He's been away travelling in Europe for almost three weeks now from Christmas day. To swap news we all went for a meal at 'Number Nine' restaurant in the Lansdown Mall in Richmond. Its a great place that serves really good Chinese food. Especially a dish of garlic and honey roasted rib.
Later John took Ralph home to his tiny but beautiful apartment in Vancouver, 17 stories up a high rise block overlooking the beautiful English Bay and Kits beach.

John and Nancylee are hosting their Writers Group tonight. They call themselves 'The Lying Bastards" We seniors settle ourselves to a night in with our knitting and two good DVDs. Namely 'The Duchess' and 'Mama Mia'.

Nancy has just received the French copy of her book . It's now been published in seven countries. Normally she is sent several copies of a new publication but this time she only has one. I have several different copies including the Dutch German and Italian. This cover is totally different to previous publications and she likes it.

Since I've been in Canada I've read several book including Steve Galloways new novel 'The Cellist of Sarajevo'. We met Steve and his family last year. At Nancy and Johns wedding. Then some weeks later we spent a day at his vineyard grape picking. The vineyards now been sold and he now lives in New Westminster and teaches in the Creative Writing department of UBC.

This is Steve's third novel and this one has received great acclaim. The story follows the lives of three people caught in the siege of the city in 1992. Their lives are all touched by the cellist who playes for 22 days, in a bomb crater, the same haunting piece of music in memory of the 22 innocent people killed there.
The book is due to be reviewed by the Richard and Judy Book Club in Spring this year. Its well worth reading.
