Another 'Do Nothing Day'

Yesterday was a rest day. We had planned to go over to North Vancouver to the Park Royal shopping mall but the weather was foggy once more and I'm assured that quote 'We never have fog like this'. Mmmmm........where have I heard that before. Was it 'We never have snow like this'? Anyhow my feet and ankles had, annoyingly, decided to swell up so it was decided that I need a feet up day with copious amounts of green tea. We did did get lots of knitting done though. Another pair of socks finished.

Here are two main topics dominating the newscasts here in Vancouver at the moment. One is the dire overspend of the 2010 Olympics’ athletic village and the is Obamamania.

The Vancouver Olympic Organising Committee known as VANCO is expecting to take over a completed Olympic Athletes village located on prime waterfront land on the Burrard Inlet, the site of Vancouver’s Expo 86, in the autumn of this year. It should consist of 1100 units of housing. The original loan from Fortress Investments Inc of $I billions had already been propped up by a further $100 million from the City. Costs were to have been recuperated by the sale of units after the Olympics. The crash in the Real Estate market is now making this unlikely.
Massive Budget overspend, secret meetings, scandals, corruption, bankruptcy, resignations, loan re negotiations, and even amendments to the Cities Charter from the B C Legislature to allow for a further $458 million loan. All these problems have and are continuing to undermine the development of this prestigious development.
My question is If Vancouver cannot control these events and cost what hope is there for the London 2012 Olympics?

'Obamamania'. A word I've coined up for the television hysteria that has begun on American and Canadian television channels running up the Obama's inauguration on the 20th. I expect without a doubt it will spread to the rest of he worlds television stations.
The inauguration of the 44th President of the Unites States of America on January 20th promises to be a spectacular circus. Already people are converging on the City of Washington and millions are expected. The administration of how to deal with these numbers of people as well as the aspects of the ceremony, rehearsal for it and especially the security arrangements is already dominating newscasts.

Today.........well it's yet another 'fog' day. We've got a workshop booked this morning at the scrapbooking shop or crapbooking as Nancylee calls it! Lunch out and Dinner with Ralph tonight.
