Fish and Christmas Trees

 We had a slow start to the day yesterday. After ripping out my knitting I thought I'd start a new project. I sourced a set of 3.75mm double pointed needles from  Nancy's needle collection and some wool from my stash and started on some wrist warmers. Mmmm wrong yarn for the job! More ripping!

Nancy L phoned. What are we doing for lunch....er... left overs. Well I know the left overs will be tasty. She suggested fish and chips in Steveston. Which did we want? Quick retort, Stupid question. So we drive down to Steveston just five minutes away and have tasty fresh caught cod and chips lunch in The Blue Canoe.

The Blue Canoe extends out over the muddy estuary waters of Fisherman's wharfe in Steveston and overlooks the many fishing boats selling their catch direct to the public.

We sit in the super heated glassed in deck area and despite the extensive menu we all choose the fish. It was the freshest and most perfectly cooked fish with the lightest crispest batter we've had in a long while. They could certainly teach our British chip shops something about our  staple British take a way!

After lunch we wander down onto the wharf and look at the fishing boats and their catches' The boat with shrimp and prawns was by far the busiest with people lining up in a long queue waiting to be served.

Later in the afternoon we go to Steveston's Brand new British Legion club. Betty and Red collect us and signs us in. Betty's a born Canadian. She was a colleagues of Nancy's at the Vancouver's Children's Hospital and we've known her since our first visit in 1980. She always takes us to the legions meat draw and practically every visit we've won one of the draws. This time Dave wins a tray of steaks. 

The legions here are mostly well attended and the meat Draws certainly are. beer can be ordered by the jug and the kitchens are kept busy bringing plates of food out to the customers. We share a hugh plate of Nachos.

After the draw there is an Elvis tribute evening, but we leave as we are going to the Christmas tree farm to get Nancy L. and John's tree. The drive back in the dark we see some of the many elaborately decorated homes. 

We've been to this farm before in 2008. The cut trees are all stood in regimented lines in curving pathways. Christmas lights and images are scattered throughout rows of trees. The best area is the flaming log fire where you can roast wieners and drink warmed cider.
