"Carol Ships 'Parade of Lights' Society began over 48 years ago with one boat decorated with Christmas lights in Coal Harbour off the Bayshore Inn (now the Westin Bayshore Resort & Marina). On peak evenings, this holiday tradition has grown to more than 80 decorated boats, with in excess of 150,000 lights, and carries over 45,000 people during the 23 night festival. Along with many community-based shoreside celebrations, more than 200,000 people enjoyed the parade in 2007." From website

Deep Cove is a lovely village community on the Indian Arm of the Frazer River on the edge of Mount Seymour National Park. Apparently several film stars live in this beautiful area. In the dark it looks a lovely place. Someday I'd like to visit and explore but maybe in the summer. 
We are visiting John's friend Kelvin and Lian They live in a beautiful home perched up a hillside overlooking Panorama Park and Deep Cove bay. The drive over to North Vancouver went without hitch and on the way we admired the many houses elaborately decorated with Christmas lights.
The snow is deeper in the Cove and it's impossible to park in Kelvins drive so we park on the road and climb up to their front door.
After a delicious meal we backtrack down the hill and down to Panorama park beach area where there's a huge bonfire already roaring away. This is one of North Vancouver s favourite holiday traditions as the Carol Ships visit Panorama Park. A Soul Gospel Choir is singing carols and Christmas songs.Santa and Mrs Claus are greeting children.
The bonfire throws out welcome warmth.

We're all dressed for the freezing weather.
After the ships have all past we climb back up to Kelvins home and relax in their cosy lounge before a roaring log fire just chating and drinking tea. Unfortunately we failed to notice the snow had arrived.
It was snowing so heavily as we drove out of Deep Cove we almost didn't make it up the hill out of the village. The drive back across to Vancouver and across Vancouver was laborious as John criss crosses the city roads trying to avoid the most steep of the cities switchback road system. We breathe a sigh of relief when we reach the bridge that takes into the flat area of Richmond.
