The day began grey and overcast. Not a glimmer of the sun. Nancylee phoned to say they would collect us at 10.30 this morning. I give the garden plants a sprinkle of water just in case the sun appears. We set out for Ladner to go to the fortnightly Farmers Market. Ladner is through the George Massey Tunnel and a short distance along the Highway 99. In 1868 brothers William and Thomas Ladner settled on the rich fertile soil of the Fraser River delta. Soon others joined them and the growing Village was named after the Brothers. William Ladner had built a wharf and donated it and the land to the community.
Sunflowers for a sunny day.
The Market get busier.
By the time we get there the sun has appeared and the day looks promising. The market looks busy. At first glance it doesn't look very big but looks are deceptive and we soon realize it's bigger than we had first thought.
There are several rustic fresh bread stalls.
never seen so many different types of tomatoes in one place.
Baskets of wild mushrooms.
Knitted goods and nifty hats.
Oh this fresh lemonade is so good
stones with captions!
There are so many stalls here. Homemade foods like pickles and preserves. Home grown fruit and veg, as many varietys as you can name. Even some Samfire which they call sea asparagus. There's organic meats. Unique craft and art works, jewelry metal ornaments. Hand made toys, aprons and dresses There are just so many stalls I couldn't name them all. Mustn't forget the hot food stalls. Unique barbecued burgers and hot dogs.
John gets a called from Ralph and Daniel to say they were also at the Market and they soon find us.It Lunch time by now and the smells of some of the cooking foods get the gastric juices flowing. We decide not to eat on the hoof and decide to go to a Greek taverna we had seen further along the street. Ralph and Daniel are invited. All the outside tables are already taken but we get a table in the sunny conservatory.
Yes its food time again!
The food arrives.
The restaurant is called Taverna Gorgona and it's food it advertises Authentic Greek Cuisine. Today there's a market day menu and its good. Beautiful crisp white cloths cover the tables.
Everyone plate is large, well presented and very tasty.
'Himself' and Daniel with satisfied grins.
Back in the market we finish the shopping. More bread and fruits, Peaches from the Okanagan. I haven't spent any money but then spot a jewellery stall with earrings I quite like. I dither for a short time then decide to go for them. Well, earring don't take up much room in the luggage
