After a quite day on New years Eve we are picked up by Bob and Sally and we all spend the remainder of New Years Eve at Nancy Lee and John's home.
The table is beautifully set for a reclette meal. We have never heard of this I don't think it hit the British stores yet! It's is a swiss invention and seems to be an upmarket souped up variation on the 1970's Fondue.
"Raclette is a firm cow’s milk cheese with an ivory to golden colour and a softy, creamy consistency. Besides Raclette, Tilsit, Grey Alp Cheese, Appenzeller and Emmental also work well. Enjoy traditional raclette with a light white wine. Ingredients
2 lb small new potatoes
1 1/2 lb Swiss raclette cheese, cut into slices
Side dishes
• A selection of dry-cured meats such as prosciutto di Parma
• Baguettes
• Gherkins, pickled onions"
We also had scallops prawns, thin slices of beef rib, sliced Italian sausage These are all cooked at the table on the Raclette and the slices of swiss cheese are melted in individual trays under the heat. When melted its poured over whatever you chose to cook on the grill top. It's fun but a bit messy. The wine flowed freely through out the meal. Unfortunately I can't tolerate wine any more so I stuck to water.
As usual we had to let the first course digest before anyone could tackle the desserts!
