Home to Blighty

Friday August 26th
The flight home was so uncomfortable. My knee and back was just so  painful and the allergy on my thigh burned and itched. The only relief I got was for short times when I was so drugged up with painkillers that I managed two short episodes of sleep. After landing , late by twenty minutes, and almost last off the plane, there was no assistance support for the 15 passengers needing help. Phone calls for requests for help resulted in one buggy to be sent in about another 8 minutes time and no time given for the rest  to arrive. Knowing Sean would be waiting and the horrendous parking charges we decided to make a slow walk through the ridiculously long corridors of the terminal. Dave estimated the walk to be at least a mile through the long corridors before we reached the underground train. Two stops later we reached passport control. More standing about waiting in line before getting our passports glanced at to be admitted back into our homeland. The luggage claim carousals came next. How come we, have taken so long to reach this point but our luggage still hasn't arrived. Eventually we make it out to where Sean was waiting. I'm almost in tears from the pain in my back and knee. Sean see's this and grabs the trolly off me. Soon we are settled in the car, but our ordeal isn't over yet. The M25 is so clogged with traffic we take 2 hours to make what should have been a 30 minute journey. At South Mimms services we stop for a snack and a coffee. I get drugged up again with pain killers and manage to sleep a little on the rest of the journey home.
Pulling into our road way and on the drive Jason came out to greet us. Dave is looking at the rolled up carpet sitting conspicuously on the front. He goes in muttering 'Whats been going on?' and comes out again to help me out of the car. He's over whelmed with the renovation of the lounge that's been taking place while we've been away and has a few tears. The Reno that Jason has been organizing while we were away never exactly went to the original plans and needed revising as it was on going. Emails went back and forth revising and approving plans. The last hiccup was the carpet layers had cut the carpet short and it wasn't laid until the morning we arrived home leaving Jason scrabbling around trying to straightened out for our home coming. You did a good job Jason. We like our bespoke fireplace very much.
Our bespoke polished concrete fireplace.
This is Goodbye to the Canadian Adventures for the time being. If or when we manage another trip it will be resurrected. Meanwhile back to 'Ramblings from the Fens
